In the early morning of February 16, representatives of the security services stormed into the homes of the managers of the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ), a registered non-governmental public association that protects the rights of journalists. A search was conducted at the Association's office. As revealed later, similar searches happened at the homes of human rights defenders, journalists and activists across the country. As the Investigative Committee reported, the action was initiated "with the aim of establishing the circumstances of financing of protest activities".
The Belarusian Association of Journalists is now working in very difficult conditions: the office is sealed, their bank account blocked, and office equipment, financial documents and the corporate seal have been seized…
